The interest in nature is a natural thing in all human being since the birth of man. Children have a great natural instinct in nature and this will lead to the pure joy children interest in biology.

We knew that science are very important in our daily life and nevertheless we are surrounded by science. Hence, not many of us realise the existence of it! For example, the everyday applications of scientific knowledge, apart from existing technology that we are constantly use, are many and diverse. An awareness of inertia is part of safety driving.

However, how many of us will be care enough to prove that that theory behind the countless science experiments by the scientist are correct?

We knew that all living things need ‘air’, ‘water’ and ‘sunlight’ to survive but our primary children wanted to prove that the plant are able to search一 for sunlight even it is in a well seal box. The children came out with their hypothesis that no matter in what kind of condition, the plants will creep towards the area even with so little of sunlight.

This is because our children realised the classroom plants moved towards the sunlight and therefore, they want to prove the process of Phototropism which the plants have developed a number of strategies to capture the maximum amount of sunlight through their leaves is correct. They even create their own plant’s obstacles to prove that plants will search for sunlight in the shortest route or going through obstacle to reach for the sunlight.

Being a teacher I know that the driving force behind this movement is the plant hormone auxin. However, I can wait for another Eureka moment for the children to observe, question, and response to the beauty and wonder of Science.

Dr Maria Montessori quote about science has enlighten me about the magical life of Nature.

“We give the name scientist to the type of man who has felt experiment to be a means guiding him to search out the deep truth of life, to lift a veil from it fascinating secrets, and… has felt arising within him a love for the mysterious of nature.” ~Maria Montessori
